I’m meeting my bestie for a socially distanced meet up today. It’s so overdue. It’s all been a bit mad recently and we barely get time to chat anymore, video calls are a thing of the past, and when we can message, we’ll have a moment once or twice here and there on Facebook messenger, but even then it’s mainly sharing memes and swapping parenthood stuff.
Whilst the conversation is never dry, it’s not really the same when you don’t have that catch once or twice a week, and since this lockdown, I’ve seen her maybe once when she had to drop something off, sitting in the car, a faint wave from the kids, us on the footpath, wishing we could just hug this all out.
I know we aren’t at hugging level yet, as social distance doesn’t allow it, but it will be great to go out for a few hours (sun you better pull through for me!) and just chill, talk and laugh.
One thing I’ve learnt over the last few months, more so than ever, is laughter really is the best medicine. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells, as well as many other benefits.
It should be seen as therapy. The cheapest form!
Hear me out.
A good laugh is a mighty good thing, don’t you think?
It just improves your overall mood.
And to be honest here, I need a good laugh.
I laugh plenty at home, so don’t think that’s not a thing, I just want to laugh with my mates. This lockdown sucks for the whole interaction side with friends and family.
And today I hope for plenty of that. Even if it is for just a few hours in a park somewhere.
I love laughing. It’s a good distraction. It’s a good distraction from my mind thinking about negative stuff, which has had it’s on and off days throughout this lockdown.
But during the current worldwide pandemic, laughter is literally the only contagious thing I wanna catch.
So here’s to laughing. It really is the best.
