Two visits to the park in the last fortnight has resulted me in looking like a mutant. Apparently my skin is just too juicy and needs to be continuously sucked on by mosquitos in this damp warm weather. First time was a just over a week ago and I had a mild allergic reaction which meant a call to 111, a trip to the pharmacy and some hydrocortisone cream and chlorphenamine tablets that would tackle the god awful swelling.
I felt sick, tired and looked horrible. To top it my mum was coming down the following day and usually the weather is lovely when my parents are down, but it meant the choice in outfits had to change dramatically whilst I figured out why I was a target for blood suckers.
Mosquito bites are the itchy bumps that appear after mosquitoes use their mouthparts to puncture your skin and feed on your blood. The bump usually clears up on its own in a few days. Occasionally a mosquito bite causes a large area of swelling, soreness and redness.
Now sitting with Emily in the early hours of Friday morning, I can feel my skin itch and swell as the next load of bites overtake my body. Argh! Why me! Thankfully no allergic reaction, yet, and I have the treatment to take, but like last time, I’ll also be whipping out the apple cider vinegar to press onto each bite, to help the sting and swelling. Yay for smelling like a chip shop. Sexy!
